Sales executive resume example and writing guide

A full sample sales executive resume for B2B and retail roles in Malaysia, with summary examples, bullet points, and honest ways to show your numbers.

What a sales hiring manager checks first

A sales manager reading your resume wants to know three things quickly: what you sold, who you sold it to, and how you performed against your target. Everything else — your education, your personality, your software skills — comes after those answers.

Be clear about the type of selling you did. B2B sales to companies, retail sales on a shop floor, and field sales to dealers or clinics are different jobs, and the manager needs to see which one you know. In Malaysia, many field and B2B roles also ask about your territory, the languages you sell in and whether you have your own transport, so put those details where they are easy to find.

A sample sales executive resume

Below is a complete example for a B2B sales executive with about five years of experience. The names, companies and figures are invented for illustration — replace them with your own, and only use numbers you can explain in an interview.

Summary: B2B sales executive with five years of experience selling office equipment and service contracts to SMEs and corporate clients in the Klang Valley. Manages a portfolio of about 60 accounts, finds new business through referrals and cold outreach, and has met or beaten annual target for the last three years. Sells in English and Malay, comfortable using Salesforce and Excel for pipeline tracking.

Sample experience: current role

  • Manage about 60 SME and corporate accounts for photocopier leasing and maintenance contracts across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
  • Achieved 112% of annual sales target in 2024 and 104% in 2025, mainly from upgrading existing clients to newer machines.
  • Won 14 new corporate accounts in 2025 through referrals from existing clients and follow-ups on trade fair leads.
  • Renewed 9 out of 10 contracts due for renewal last year by reviewing usage with each client two months before expiry.

Summary examples for different levels

  • Junior or fresh graduate: “Business graduate with eight months of part-time retail sales experience at an electronics outlet, where I was regularly one of the top three sellers on my shift. Looking for a first B2B sales role where I can learn account management and prospecting.”
  • Experienced: “Sales executive with six years in industrial supplies, managing distributor and factory accounts in Penang and Kedah. Consistently met annual target and opened 20 new accounts in the last two years. Uses HubSpot daily and sells in English, Malay and Hokkien.”
  • Career changer: “Former customer service team lead moving into sales, with four years of handling complaints, upselling service plans and retaining unhappy customers. Comfortable with targets, CRM records and difficult conversations.”

Strong bullet examples by area

Choose bullets that match the job you are applying for, and rewrite them in your own words with your own figures.

  • Prospecting: “Booked an average of eight first meetings a month from cold calls and LinkedIn messages to HR managers in manufacturing firms.”
  • Prospecting: “Built a list of 300 target companies in the Johor Bahru area from trade directories and turned it into a shared lead list for the team.”
  • Prospecting: “Followed up every enquiry from the website within one working day, which became the team’s standard.”
  • Account management: “Looked after 40 dealer accounts and visited each at least once a quarter to review stock and upcoming promotions.”
  • Account management: “Resolved a delivery dispute with our largest client by arranging a joint meeting with operations, keeping the account.”
  • Targets: “Exceeded monthly sales target in 10 of 12 months in 2025.”
  • Targets: “Ranked second of 12 sales executives in the region for full-year revenue.”
  • Retail: “Sold home appliances on a commission basis and was the outlet’s top seller during the year-end sale three years running.”
  • Retail: “Raised the outlet’s add-on sales by recommending extended warranties and accessories at every checkout.”
  • CRM and reporting: “Cleaned up duplicate and outdated contacts in HubSpot so the team could trust the lead list.”
  • CRM and reporting: “Prepared the weekly sales forecast in Excel for the sales manager from CRM data.”
  • Negotiation: “Negotiated a two-year supply contract with a hospital group, agreeing volume pricing without dropping below the approved margin.”

Showing numbers when targets are confidential

Some employers don’t want you sharing revenue figures, and you should respect that. You can still show performance without revealing the company’s numbers.

  • Use percentages of target: “achieved 115% of annual target” says how well you did without giving away the target itself.
  • Use rankings: “top three of 15 sales executives” or “salesperson of the quarter twice”.
  • Use counts: number of accounts, new clients won, meetings booked or renewals secured.
  • Use ranges or rounding if you need to: “a portfolio worth over RM1 million a year” is less sensitive than an exact figure.
  • Never quote client names that are confidential, and never inflate a figure — sales managers know what is realistic in their industry and will ask how you got there.

Skills and keywords to include

Copy the skill names from the job post when they are true for you, because recruiters search for them. Only list software you have used in a real job.

  • Selling skills: prospecting, cold calling, account management, key account management, negotiation, closing, upselling, contract renewal, territory management.
  • Tools: Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets.
  • Retail skills: point-of-sale systems, product demonstration, merchandising, stock checks, handling cash.
  • Other details employers often ask about: languages, driving licence, willingness to travel, and the industries you have sold into.

Common mistakes on sales resumes

  • Describing duties instead of results: “responsible for sales in the northern region” tells the manager nothing about how you did.
  • No numbers at all. Sales is one of the easiest jobs to measure, so a resume with none raises questions.
  • Claiming every deal as your own when it was a team effort. Say “part of a team that won” where that is true.
  • Leaving out what you sold. “Sold products to clients” could mean anything — name the product type and the customers.
  • Using a generic objective like “seeking a challenging role” instead of a summary that shows your track record.

Tailoring for different employers

For a B2B role, lead with account size, sales cycle, new business won and renewals. For a retail or B2C role, lead with daily customer handling, conversion, add-on sales and recognition such as top seller awards.

Match the industry where you can. If the job is selling medical supplies and you once sold to clinics, move that bullet to the top. If the post names a CRM you have used, mention it in both your summary and your skills section. Small changes like these make your resume read as if it was written for that job — because it was.
