Digital marketer resume example and writing guide

A full sample resume for a digital marketing executive in Malaysia, with summaries, results-based bullets, tool keywords and how to tailor it for agencies or brands.

What employers in Malaysia look for

“Digital marketing” covers very different jobs: running paid ads, managing social media, writing content, handling SEO, sending email campaigns or growing a Shopee store. Hiring managers want to see quickly which of these you actually do, on which platforms, and what happened as a result.

Most also want proof that you understand the numbers behind the work. That means knowing the difference between reach and conversions, reading results in Ads Manager or GA4, and changing a campaign because of what the data showed. Content skills in more than one language — Malay, English and often Chinese — are a practical advantage for many Malaysian brands, so say which languages you write in.

Sample resume, section by section

Here is a complete example for a mid-level digital marketing executive. The names, companies and figures are illustrations — replace every one with your own, and only use numbers you can show or explain in an interview.

Name and title line: “Lim Jia Hui — Digital Marketing Executive. Petaling Jaya, Selangor · 016-789 1234 · jiahui.lim@example.com · portfolio: jiahuilim.com”.

Summary: “Digital marketing executive with four years in agency and in-house roles for beauty and food brands. Runs Meta and Google Ads campaigns, plans monthly content calendars and reports results in GA4 and Looker Studio. Writes content in English, Malay and Mandarin.”

Experience, job one: “Digital Marketing Executive, Pelangi Glow Skincare Sdn Bhd, Petaling Jaya — June 2023 to present.”

  • Manage a monthly paid social budget across Meta and TikTok, testing new creatives every week and moving spend to the best performers, which lowered cost per purchase over six months.
  • Plan and run campaigns for Shopee and Lazada mega sales such as 11.11 and 12.12, coordinating vouchers, livestreams and ads with the e-commerce team.
  • Set up GA4 conversion events and Meta Pixel through Google Tag Manager, so the team could see which channels led to website orders for the first time.
  • Built a weekly Looker Studio report that replaced three separate spreadsheets used by management.
  • Brief and manage two freelance designers and a video editor for product launches and festive campaigns.

Sample resume, continued

Experience, job two: “Social Media Executive, Brightwave Digital Sdn Bhd (agency), Kuala Lumpur — February 2021 to May 2023.”

  • Managed social media for five clients in F&B, property and retail, producing about 60 posts a month across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Wrote bilingual captions in English and Malay and adapted content for Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Deepavali campaigns.
  • Grew a café chain’s Instagram from 2,500 to 9,000 followers in a year through short-form video and user-generated content.
  • Prepared monthly performance reports and presented them to clients with recommendations for the next month.

Sample resume: education, certifications and skills

Education: “Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons), Advertising — 2020.” Add the university name and year; you can leave out grades if they don’t help.

Certifications: “Google Ads Search Certification (Skillshop) · Google Analytics Certification (Skillshop) · Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate.” These certificates expire or need renewing, so only list ones that are current.

Skills: “Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, Shopee and Lazada seller centres, GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Looker Studio, Canva, CapCut, Mailchimp. Languages: English, Malay, Mandarin.”

Summary examples by level

  • Fresh graduate: “Marketing graduate with an internship managing social media for a local F&B brand. Comfortable with Canva, CapCut and Meta Business Suite, and completed the Google Analytics certification on Skillshop.”
  • Junior: “Social media executive with two years creating content and community management for retail brands. Plans monthly calendars, writes captions in English and Malay, and reports reach and engagement every month.”
  • Mid-level: “Performance marketer with four years running Meta and Google Ads for e-commerce brands. Tests creatives weekly, tracks conversions in GA4 and works closely with the marketplace team during mega sales.”
  • Senior: “Digital marketing manager with eight years across agency and brand roles. Leads a team of four, owns the annual digital budget and sets the measurement plan for paid, organic and marketplace channels.”
  • Career changer: “Former retail sales supervisor moving into digital marketing, with two years running the store’s Facebook page and WhatsApp Business broadcasts. Completed Google and Meta certifications and now manages ads for a family business.”

Bullet examples by area of work

Use these as patterns. Replace the platforms and figures with your own, and be ready to explain how each result was measured.

  • Paid social: “Ran lead-generation campaigns on Meta for a property developer, testing three audiences and two formats each month and pausing ads with high cost per lead.”
  • Paid search: “Restructured Google Ads search campaigns by product line and added negative keywords, cutting wasted spend on irrelevant searches.”
  • Social media: “Planned and posted content for three brand accounts, with short-form video becoming the main format after it outperformed static posts.”
  • Content: “Wrote 30 blog articles a year targeting product questions customers asked on WhatsApp, several of which now rank on the first page of Google.”
  • SEO: “Fixed indexing and page-speed issues flagged in Google Search Console, and rewrote title tags for the top 50 product pages.”
  • E-commerce: “Managed Shopee Ads and voucher plans for the brand’s official store, preparing stock and creatives two weeks ahead of each mega sale.”
  • Livestream: “Hosted and scripted weekly Shopee and TikTok live sessions, and trained two colleagues to host as cover.”
  • Email and CRM: “Set up welcome and abandoned-cart email flows in Klaviyo for subscribers who had given consent.”
  • Influencers: “Shortlisted and managed 20 micro-influencers for a product launch, tracking each one with a unique voucher code.”
  • Analytics: “Set up GA4 events, UTM naming rules and a Looker Studio dashboard so every campaign was reported the same way.”
  • Agency: “Handled five client accounts at once and presented monthly reports with clear next steps rather than screenshots of metrics.”

Skills and keywords to include

Job ads usually name the exact platforms they use. Mirror those names where they are true for you, so your resume matches what the recruiter is searching for.

  • Advertising: Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, Shopee Ads, Lazada Sponsored Solutions, LinkedIn Ads for B2B roles.
  • Analytics and tracking: GA4, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel and Conversions API, Google Search Console, Looker Studio, UTM parameters.
  • Content and design: Canva, CapCut, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, copywriting in each language you can write well.
  • E-commerce and CRM: Shopee and Lazada seller centres, TikTok Shop, Shopify, WooCommerce, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, WhatsApp Business.
  • Metric words: reach, CTR, CPC, CPM, cost per lead, ROAS, conversion rate, A/B testing. Use only the ones you have actually tracked.

Certifications worth having

Google offers free certifications for Google Ads and Google Analytics through Skillshop, and Meta runs paid certification exams through Meta Blueprint. HubSpot Academy has free courses in inbound and email marketing. None of these replace experience, but for juniors and career changers they show you have learnt the platforms properly.

If your resume still says “Google Analytics (Universal Analytics)”, update it. Google stopped processing data in Universal Analytics in 2023, and employers now expect GA4.

Common mistakes

  • Listing every platform you have ever opened. Name the ones you can run on your own and talk about in detail.
  • Reporting only vanity metrics such as likes and followers when the job is about leads or sales.
  • Claiming results without saying what you did, for example “increased sales by 30%” with no mention of the campaign or channel.
  • Using real client data or screenshots in your portfolio without permission.
  • Calling yourself a “digital marketing expert” or “growth hacker” instead of naming your actual role and channels.

Tailoring for agencies versus in-house brands

For an agency role, show range and speed. Mention how many clients you handled at once, which industries, and how you reported to clients. Agencies want people who can switch between briefs, meet deadlines and explain results to someone who is not a marketer.

For an in-house brand role, show depth. Talk about one brand’s results over time, how you worked with sales, e-commerce or product teams, and how you managed budgets and freelancers. Brands want someone who understands their customers and will still be improving the same campaigns a year from now.

For e-commerce and marketplace roles, move Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop experience to the top, including mega-sale planning, vouchers and livestreams. For B2B companies, highlight lead generation, LinkedIn, email nurturing and working with a sales team.
